OCTOBER 2024
A chair - the current work in progress.
Inspired by the tête-à-tête chair form, the chair is designed to be doubled, following a philosophy of connection and convergence. Beyond ergonomics, the design considers sight lines and knee proximity, turning heads, leaning torsos; priority is placed on encouraging comfortable, laid-back interaction.
The form has users gravitate towards one another, creating a shared space conducive to meaningful connection. Movement and energy are guided by the chair's contours, which are derived by slicing a truncated cone into quarters. This repeated element scoops the user with gentle curvature, resulting in both a sculptural petal-like form and an alcove to settle into.
A piece of furniture, just as any architectural and urban design element, should serve as a catalyst for engagement and collaboration. The transformative power of design lies in its ability to not simply accommodate, but to inspire human interaction. The doubled chair exemplifies this ethos, seamlessly integrating into both commercial and residential spaces to encourage and foster a sense of community and connection.
